What is GCP?
GCP stands for General Computer Practice. This is course is ideal for you if you have some computer knowledge, or basic computer knowledge, and would like to learn a bit more. This course contains 7 different sections.
You will learn about basic computer operations, for example how to use the keyboard and mouse, how to manage files, cut copying and pasting files.
You will also learn how to write a letter and make changes to it, for example the size or colour of the text.
You will learn how design simple spreadsheets which can be used to store information in simple yet ordered rows and columns. You will also learn how to perform calculation using your spreadsheet.
You will learn how to create graphical presentations which you can use in any situation. From giving speeches to advertising a product. A presentation is a good way to get a message across.
You will also learn a bit more about using the internet and how to send and receive email. This course takes up a maximum 12 lessons which are each 2 hours long.
General computer Practice also follows SAQA unit standards for Word (117924, NQF level 2 with 5 credits), Excel (116937, NQF level 2 with 4 credits) and PowerPoint (117923, NQF level 2 with 5 credits). This means that once you have finished the course you have an option to write an assessment, which is similar to an exam on these three sections. Once you have finished the assessment you will either be competent or not yet competent on each unit standard. The advantages of writing an assessment is the fact that if you only need to rewrite one section, for example Excel, then you only need to rewrite that section and not the whole assessment.
If all this sounds like a good deal to you then either phone us here at Computer Skills For Africa (087 808 6187) for more information or to sign up. Remember that education is important. Once you have finished GCP (with or without the assessment) then you could even think about getting an ICDL, now there is a qualification worth getting.
