What is ICDL?
ICDL is the world’s leading computer skills certification. To date more than 14 million people have engaged with the ICDL programme, in over 150 countries, through our network of over 24,000 ICDL Accredited Test Centres (ATCs). The ICDL programme defines the skills and competencies necessary to use a computer and common computer applications. It offers a wide range of modules including Computer Essentials, Word Processing and IT Security. Candidates take tests in the modules which are most relevant to their educational and professional requirements, thereby creating their ICDL Profile. Whether in school, university or in the workplace, ICDL offers the skills you need to succeed.
What is e-Learner?
e-Learner is an ICDL endorsed product which equips candidates with a solid foundation for progressing on to the ICDL qualification. It is a certified, modular course of progressive ICT skills utilising courseware from e-Learner. Using a unique and integrated approach, e-Learner provides the means to acquire essential ICT skills across a spectrum of 7 units.

Up till now, the only way to achieve e-Learner certification was at the local Computers 4 Kids Training Centres.
Now, each and every school in South Africa can offer this certificate to their learners at their own Computer Centre and by their own teaching staff. Computer Skills for Africa provides a user friendly ICT curriculum that explains all the activities step by step. It literally takes the teacher by the hand so that the lessons for the learners are easy and fun.
The Computer Skills for Africa (CS4A) curriculum is developed for teachers who want to use outcomes based, learner centred, project and goal oriented activities while teaching ICT skills. The curriculum is progressive and very structured. Over 250 ICT skills are introduced, practiced and assessed. It is researched properly, fully tested, fun and challenging on different levels of complexity. Teachers can learn along with the learners as they prepare the lessons because all steps are clearly explained.
Where does CS4A come from?
Computer Skills for Africa (CS4A) is a Registered Trademark as well as the trading name for Integrated Educational Technology Support (IETS). IETS has been accredited with ICDL from 2001 to 2017 and MICT SETA from 2007 to 2017. Greta Bosiers, the founder of CS4A, taught in South African schools for more than a decade before starting her own computer training company. The CS4A Primary Curriculum is in use since 2008. It is a wholly South African product, developed by South African teachers for South African learners in South African schools.
International Acclaim
In March this year (2015), Jenny Van Niekerk, the CEO of ICDL Africa, and Greta Bosiers, owner of IETS and Computer Skills for Africa, had a meeting and discussed the alignment of the CS4A Primary Curriculum with ICDL, specifically with the e-Learner certificate. The learners at Hilldrop Heritage School in Newcastle were the guinea pigs to prove their ICT skills learned through the CS4A Primary Curriculum. They all passed their e-Learner exams beautifully!

What is needed to run the CS4A Primary Curriculum in a school?
Schools must have:
- A working computer centre with a minimum of 10 machines
- Suitable computer teacher(s) – willing to learn
- Every child must have a lesson of 30 minutes or more at least once a week
Suitable for ALL schools
- Site licence for the whole school.
- Activities take between 10 and 50 minutes.
- There are about 15 activities per term per grade.
- If preferred, each teacher can take their own class, no need for a specialist ICT teacher.
- It gives on the job training and teachers’ ICT skills and general knowledge is vastly improved.
- Highly flexible.
- Includes completed examples for all activities.
- Includes skills lists and learning plans.
- Includes assessments, solutions and admin templates.
- Aligned with international syllabi.
